The Manne Match Challenge

Celebrating Science Research at The Bronx High School of Science

Bronx Science alumnus Stanley Manne ’52 has just made a transformative investment in Bronx Science. This is not only the largest gift in Bronx Science history, but also the largest gift from an individual to any public high school in New York (and possibly) the country. Mr. Manne’s vision will further transform Bronx Science into the undisputed leader of public high school education in the nation. The Stanley Manne Institute is a brand new, state-of-the-art program and facility that has no peer at any other high school in America. This is the first new building on the school’s current campus.

The Stanley Manne Institute has more than 10,000 square feet of dedicated space for professional-grade science labs that are comparable to leading research universities and companies. Within the Stanley Manne Institute, there are dedicated programs to independent scientific research allowing students to envision, design, execute and analyze complex research projects with the lab space, the resources and the mentorship connections to expand their minds, pursue their passions and ultimately further the scientific enterprise.

Extending beyond Bronx Science students, the Stanley Manne Institute also enables the Bronx High School of Science to partner with neighboring schools to help provide their students with powerful research opportunities. A Bronx hub and New York institution, the Stanley Manne Institute will help cement Bronx Science’s reputation as the leader of public school education in the United States.

The Manne Match Challenge

Mr. Manne is calling on the Bronx Science community to join him in this incredible initiative. Mr. Manne has committed $10 million of his gift for a match. He is inviting ten fellow alumni, parents, friends or companies each to contribute $1 million to Bronx Science to invest in vital science-based education and hands-on learning opportunities at a time when the world needs them most. Donors to the Manne Match Challenge will make a powerful, transformative gift to Bronx Science and will also help make a difference in the lives of neighboring high school and middle school students.

Manne Match donations will provide an ambitious, meaningful range of enrichment programs at Bronx Science ensuring that all students have access to crucial academic and extracurricular opportunities including science research and student aid that enable them to thrive for years to come.

All donors who commit to the Manne Match challenge will have their names graciously displayed in the Stanley Manne Institute lobby as well as the Bronx Science lobby as a leading benefactor. All donors and their guests will be invited to the annual Bronx Science senior showcase where our students will present their research and share their experiences at the Stanley Manne Institute. We will also invite all Manne Match benefactors to an annual meeting with the Principal and Director of the Stanley Manne Institute highlighting student accomplishments for the year and visions for the future. Donors to the Manne Match challenge will also have opportunities to meet with Manne Scholars and hear directly from Bronx Science students. If willing, we will recognize Manne Match donors in our newsletter and on social media to inspire others to give. Donors will also be recognized in our annual report, on our website and at signature Bronx Science events.

Impact

We believe in nurturing original ideas and young talent. Student research at the Stanley Manne Institute has the power to benefit generations and communities today and tomorrow.

Providing students with opportunities to conduct their own science research is critical. Students learn valuable analytical and problem-solving skills while also developing the competencies to pursue scientific research professionally. Moreover, we believe the Stanley Manne Institute will ultimately help foster scientific literacy, enhance the scientific community, broaden the realm of human inquiry and ingenuity, pave the way for vital breakthroughs and thereby contribute to our public and civic health.

The Stanley Manne Institute will benefit 3,000 Bronx Science students annually and more than 4,000 students at our partner schools. This means that the Stanley Manne Institute mission is also a step toward creating greater social equity. The majority of all 7,000 students are from low-income families, are predominately students of color, are immigrants and are poised to become first-generation college students. Helping provide independent science research programs for these talented, motivated students will help open pathways to enduring success.

The Stanley Manne Institute is well positioned to serve as the largest hub of student research in the Bronx, in New York City and the country. Participation in the Manne Match Challenge today is a confident investment in the future. Today, students will be conducting research at the Stanley Manne Institute; tomorrow, they may discover a new vaccine, make a scientific breakthrough or even be awarded the Nobel Prize.
