Meet Sydney Teh '19
My name is Sydney Teh and I’m a current senior at Bronx Science. After four years, this school has been a transformative experience.
I came from a middle school called the Baccalaureate School for Global Education. For those of you who have never heard of that, it’s this super tiny international school in Queens. There were three classes in each grade and as you can imagine, opportunities were limited. I came to Bronx Science to expand my horizons, because I knew there were so many more people to meet and activities to do elsewhere.
I’ve truly taken advantage of all this school has to offer. I’m now the President of the Speech & Debate Team which has really been the highlight of my high school experience. Here, my team is my family; we’ve traveled across the country competing together. After 2am preparation sessions, wholesome team dinners, and having a coach that has changed my life, I’m incredibly grateful. I’m also the Editor in Chief of the Yearbook where we create a lasting book of memories for the graduating class and also, won the first place award in the American Scholastic Press Association for our writing. Through participating in student government, leading the Judicial Board, and organizing elections at this school, I’ve met some of the most dedicated kids. Here, everyone truly cares about making the school a better place. Lastly, I was a member of the chorus as well as in the casts of the school musicals. Though we are Bronx Science in name, students interested in the arts still find their place to shine.
None of the experiences that have defined my last four years would have been possible without the amazing students of this school nor the funding that the school has to give us access to resources. I’ve had some of the best teachers, guidance counselors, and friends. Even those who I’ve seen graduate come back to help out. Bronx Science is a place where you could be a science or a humanities kid, or both, and still find what you love here. In the future, I hope to go to law school, and end up working in either international business or intellectual property. I’m beyond proud to be a Wolverine and know that even decades later, I’ll still be showing off my green and gold.
