What We Do

Supporting A bright FUTURE for BRONX SCIENCE

Support for any of the Foundation’s priorities enables Bronx Science students to grow intellectually, expand their worldview and make valuable connections that can guide them on the path to success.

The Bronx Science Foundation provides the school with $1-2M in funding every year to support the following priorities:

  • Unrestricted gifts to the Green & Gold Fund are used to meet the most pressing needs of the school each academic year. These funds may support:

    • Student Financial Aid: 50% of Bronx Science students live below the poverty line, and they rely on us to help cover costs associated with making the most of their high school experience, such as school trips, senior dues, prom tickets, yearbooks, laptops and more.

    • Academic Enhancements: The Foundation provides materials for some of our most challenging and beloved high-level electives and provides teachers with professional development opportunities needed to excel in their roles.

    • Summer Institutes: The Foundation sponsors nine free Summer Institutes that allow students to explore their passions in entrepreneurship, research, design, programming, arts, law & government and more.

    • College Programs: Our students need guidance to navigate the complex college application process, which is why we underwrite the Director of College Advising position and coordinate a slew of programs, including group college visits, Project Accepted, Supplement Review, Campus Liaisons and college panels.

    • Extracurriculars and more.

  • We make essential investment in facilities to equip students with spaces that optimize growth and learning. The Stanley Manne Research Institute, our new state-of-the-art 10,000 square foot building for high-level student research, is the most recent example of how alumni gifts are transforming our school for students today. Ongoing investment in Manne Institute personnel, equipment and programming is needed to maximize the potential of this incredible space.

Other recent capital improvements have included a complete renovation of the cafeteria, updates of science labs and equipment and a revitalization of Room 131, now known as the Morris Meister Lecture Hall.

  • To keep our students at the cutting edge in rapidly advancing STEM areas and help them Imagine, Discover, Engineer and Apply Solutions, the IDEAS Initiative supports advanced coursework; a Makerspace and new facilities; our annual Hackathon; two robotics teams, the FeMaidens and SciBorgs; and Summer Institutes focused on Robotics, Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence.

  • Bronx Science proudly has one of the most successful Speech & Debate teams in the country. We are looking to create a permanent funding source for the team to invest in coaches, tournament fees, travel costs and more. Donations ensure all students can pay travel costs and registration fees, regardless of financial means.

  • We are committed to providing our students with a well-rounded education for their personal and professional benefit by underwriting arts courses and extracurriculars and providing students with opportunities to immerse themselves in New York’s museums, theater, music, dance and more.

  • Bronx Science is unique among public high schools with a dedicated, professional museum focused on learning and understanding the Holocaust. Students work as docents and teach fellow students about the Holocaust as well as visiting groups locally, nationally and internationally. Donations to the museum allow Bronx Science to maintain the museum and expand our outreach efforts.
