Support the Bronx Science Speech & Debate Team
Bronx Science is proud to have one of the most successful Speech & Debate teams in the country. We aim to give every member of our 300 person team as many competitive opportunities as possible, so that each student can develop new skills from competing among the best speakers and debaters in the country.
The Speech & Debate Team is the most expensive activity at Bronx Science – between family contributions, the Alumni Foundation and the school, the team costs more than $250,000, with the vast bulk of support coming from the Bronx Science Alumni Foundation. Beginning in Fall 2021, we anticipate a significant budget cut to the Bronx Science budget since the Department of Education is eliminating more than $250 million due to the pandemic. We anticipate needing to provide an additional $50,000 annually to the school for the Speech & Debate Team to make up that loss.
This current financial model is not sustainable and our goal is to raise a $5 million permanent fund for the team to ensure its long term vitality. We are counting on our alumni to help make financial support for the team a priority.
All the money raised will go to the Speech & Debate Team to cover the cost of tournament fees, buses, hotels, judges, coaches, student financial aid and more. Our goal is to make the Speech & Debate Team accessible to all students regardless of financial means.
