Bronx Science Research Programs
The primary focus of The Stanley Manne ’52 Research Institute™ is to provide Bronx Science students with the space, equipment and guidance to develop their very own scientific research questions, engage with the process of experimentation and discover scientific results. Within The Stanley Manne ’52 Research Institute™, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of research programs to design and conduct their own independent science research projects. Students prepare for the research program through a required course on Research Literacy in their first year at Bronx Science. All 750 first year students will have an opportunity to engage with the Stanley Manne Institute™ during their school day on the different aspects of professional labs. Students will learn how to use cutting edge equipment, conduct introductory experiments and observe complex demonstrations.
Bronx Science hosts several intensive Summer Institutes at The Stanley Manne ’52 Research Institute™ labs for students to pursue their independent projects beyond the school year. The ultimate goal for these budding young scientists is to create a final project and paper they can submit in national competitions. Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of scientific specialties including Microbiology, Animal Behavior, Genetics and more topics of students’ own interest. Throughout the process, students will be able to collaborate with and learn from mentors and leading scientists.
Hear from Research Program Students
My time at the Cellular and Molecular Research Institute taught me lab skills, life skills, and the handling of specialized equipment. What I valued the most, however, were the times when I messed up, from contaminating samples to failing to make a working procedure. Through these situations, I have learned to have resilience in finding solutions. Overall, the research institute was a valuable academic experience that will prepare me for what lies ahead in the three-year research course at Bronx Science.

“Working in the Manne Institute has truly been a journey. Alongside the marvelous instructors, I was able to conduct much research regarding the current summer experiment I'm working on; Impact of color on crickets. At the beginning of my experiment, I found myself with no clue regarding how I was to further advance my project. With the help of fellow classmates and instructors, I came to practical, yet complex scientific solutions. Currently, I'm excited to showcase my findings to my other lab partners and finalize my experiment.”
