Bronx Science Junior Julia Lauer ('16) Wins Debate Title in Florida


Julia Lauer ('16) is the 2015 Congressional Debate champion of the Sunvitational, one of the largest high school speech and debate tournaments in the United States.

Julia and Mohammad Nehmeh ('17) both earned bids to the National High School Tournament of Champions (TOC) for reaching the final round of Congressional Debate. Emma Gometz ('17) was a finalist in Declamation, placing third overall, and Garnet Garcia '16 was a finalist in Dramatic Interpretation, placing fourth overall.

Hillel Rosenshine ('17) was a semifinalist in Oral Interpretation of Literature. The partnership of Julia Donheiser ('15) and Garnet Garcia ('16) and the partnership of Maddy Abrahams ('16) and Cameron Burger ('16) reached the semifinal round in Duo Interpretation. Maddy was also a quarterfinalist in Humorous Interpretation and Original Oratory, meaning she cleared into the elimination rounds in three separate categories. Hunter Sadoff ('17) was a quarterfinalist in Impromptu Speaking.

Isaac Bardin ('16) and Josh Zakharov ('16) reached the bid round in Public Forum Debate. 

Bronx Science cleared an incredible six Lincoln-Douglas debaters into the elimination rounds, more than any other school competing: Isis Davis-Marks ('15), Oliver Korten ('16), Carolyn Lau ('16), Diganta Rashed ('16), John Staunton ('16), and Ean Steinberger ('15).
