Bronx Science is the 2015-2016 PSAL Champion in Girls Tennis and Girls Soccer!

Our Bronx Science athletes had an AMAZING fall.

Bronx Science Girls Soccer is the PSAL Champion and Bronx Science Girls Tennis won BOTH the PSAL Singles and Doubles Championships.

On Thursday, November 5th, at the indoor courts of the Cunningham Tennis Center, Bronx Science Girls swept the New York City individual finals in tennis! Junior Sarah Rahman ('17) captured the PSAL Individual singles championship, winning matches 6-2, 6-0. "Sarah's growth has been steady since she came back to tennis in her freshman year," said Bronx Science head coach Jeff Menaker. "Her biggest improvement in the last year has been the serve. I see it as a weapon now. She hits a very clean ball and she's able to do that from everywhere on the court. She sees the court extraordinarily well in reading the ball and reacting to it."

Freshmen Perene Wang ('19) and Christina Huynh ('19) won the doubles championship. In doubles, the top-seeds Wang and Huynh outlasted second-seeds Alexus Gill and Michelle Khaimov of Beacon 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to win the city title.

The top-seeded Rahman, a junior, didn’t lose a game in either the quarterfinal or the semifinal rounds, setting up a finals match with third-seed Nicole Stay of Francis Lewis. Stay won only two games and lost all sets.

Congratulations to Coach Menaker, to all of our Tennis kids, and especially to Rahman, Wang, and Huynh on making us all so proud!

Three days later, on November 8th, Bronx Science Girls Soccer defeated Beacon 3-1 in the Finals to win the PSAL Division A Championship!

Bronx Science finished its season 15-3-0, but two of its three losses had come facing Beacon, which shut out Bronx Science during both matches of its regular season. That would not be the case at the Finals, when Bronx Science Sophomore Meleni Rahaman ('18) capitalized on a defensive mistake and blasted a shot into Beacon's goal off of the top crossbar in the very first minute of play. Rahaman would score once more and Bronx Science overall would score twice more. Bronx Science goalkeeper Jenna Kolodny was also a major presence with a few crucial saves that preserved the 3-1 victory.
